October Road

Filed under: October Road — by Melanie @ 11:43 pm

I’ve been sorta half-watching October Road after I get off of work on Thursday nights. I’m usually making myself ‘dinner’, checking my e-mail, etc. at the same time. I never really thought it was that great. It was okay, but not a show I needed to see… it was really just a step above background noise. But tonight, I actually liked it. As in, it kept my interest and I will be sure to watch the new episode in two weeks to see what happens to peanut-allergy boy (Nick’s probably-son… I can’t think of his name right now.)

Tudors = Bore

Filed under: David Duchovny, The Tudors — by Melanie @ 10:53 pm

I gave Showtime’s, The Tudors, a try last night. I’m one of those nerds that love history – in fact, I’m a history major – but this was a bore. I’m not exactly sure why… maybe because the pilot episode makes it pretty clear that the show is really just going to be about Henry VII and his inability to keep his pants on. I’m not easily offended, but there was one too many gratuitous sex scenes for me. It wasn’t the sex that offended me. What did, was that their unnecessary inclusion traded off with plot development.

Eh, maybe I’ll give it one more shot and watch the second episode on Sunday night, but probably not.

Watching wasn’t a complete waste of my time, though. I got to see a commercial for a new series that David Duchovny is doing, that will premiere this August on Showtime, after Weeds. As a huge fan of the X-Files (and Duchovny), this excites me very much. My only concern is that this show may also suffer from one too many gratuitous sex scenes as well because even the commercial was filled with them!

Giada on Today

Filed under: Food Network, Giada De Laurentiis, The Today Show — by Melanie @ 9:25 am

What’s up with Giada De Laurentiis being on the Today show so frequently this week? Is she making the jump to morning news? Her segments haven’t had anything to do with food or cooking (at least to know my knowledge.) Today she did one on golf, for example.

EDIT: Here’s a bit of an explanation – http://tvfoodfan.blogspot.com/2007/03/is-giada-branching-out.html

More Crossroads, Pt. 1

Filed under: Battlestar Galactica — by Melanie @ 11:09 pm

If you’re a BSG fan and you don’t listen to the official podcast, I highly recommend it. Ron Moore’s insight is incredibly interesting and I like that he often explains why something was done the way it was. Hearing about the alternatives that were considered is also pretty cool, in my opinion.

Tonight at work I listened to the podcast for the most recent episode and it was revealed – SMALL SPOILER WARNING – that the looks between Anders and Tory are indeed the result of them sleeping together. Apparently part of the Laura getting mad at Tory scene was cut. After Laura tells Tory that she needs to pull it together, she really lays into her, telling Tory that she knows she has been sleeping with Anders and this is a huge mistake because his wife only died a few weeks ago and was somewhat of a hero around here.

Hmmm… interesting… very interesting… SCIFI.com is advertising the season finale as the episode in which we find out who the final five Cylons are. Sunday seems so far away! And the hiatus between S3 and S4 is going to kill me! No new episodes until January 2008?!?!

Podcast Suggestions?

I started a job about a week ago where I enter data into a computer for 3.5 hours Monday through Friday evenings (after I’m finished with class.) The only thing that makes it bearable is that it pays well and I get to listen to my iPod while I’m working. I love music but I get bored of it after about an hour, so I’ve started listening to Podcasts, which I really enjoy… they definitely make the time fly by faster. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m currently listening to the the Battlestar Galactica Podcast, Grey’s Anatomy Official Podcast, Veronica Mars Podcast, TV Guide Talk, and This American Life. Unfortunately, many of these won’t be updated for awhile (or not at all during summer hiatus) and I work five days a week…. I need something to fill my head with! :)

Crossroads, Pt. 1

Filed under: Battlestar Galactica — by Melanie @ 11:51 pm

Spoilers ahead for the first part of the Battlestar Galactica S3 Finale… Turn back now if you haven’t seen it yet.

My mind is still reeling from this episode. The previews for next week’s episode also look amazing. Did I hear Anders correctly? Did he really say, “We’re Cylons.”? Speaking of Anders, what is up with him and Tory? Those looks they gave one another – what did they mean? Is Tory a Cylon too? Did they sleep together?

Both Anders and Tigh could hear the radio. I think maybe Tory could too. A lot of people on the TWOP boards are speculating that all three of them are Cylons. Someone is going to be revealed as a Cylon… we’ve been hearing all season long that this would happen sooner or later. I’d be shocked if it was all three. And what about Kara? Maybe I’m skeptical that all three of them would ever be Cylons because I’m holding out hope that Katee Sackhooff is returning to the show sooner or later, and the only way that would really seem plausible in my opinion is if Kara is one of the Final Five, and I just can’t see so many people being revealed as Cylons… but maybe. And what are they hearing on the radio??? Is is humans from Earth???

Laura has cancer again. I didn’t see that one coming… well I did, but not until Lee started questioning her on the stand and we found out she was taking the chamalla again. (I had no idea why Lee was sniffing her cup in the CIC.) I knew Laura wouldn’t take a drug just so she could have hallucinations. I’m bummed that she is sick again, but excited for the plotline possibilities this will bring.

Check out the Canadian preview for next weeks’ episode. It is different than what SciFi aired tonight in the States and raises even more questions for me.

My Return

Filed under: Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars — by Melanie @ 1:33 pm

As I “warned” yesterday, I’m back. I always have more time in the Spring and there’s just so much good stuff going on in TV Land for me to comment on, I couldn’t stay away. I have also recently become obsessed with Battlestar Galactica. I caught up with the entire series in the past month or so and I cannot wait for tonight’s episode.

I’ve been on Spring Break (today is the last day of it… how sad) so I had the time to begin re-watching Season 1 of Veronica Mars. All of this came at the same time the cancellation rumors started swirling around the internet. While I am thoroughly convinced that show has gone down hill quite a lot – how much so hits me as I re-watch the Lily Kane murder investigation unfold – I’d be pretty disappointed to see the show go for good. I like the idea of jumping ahead four years, with Veronica as an FBI agent. Sure there’s going to be a cast purge, but given how little we see of most of the cast now, would it really be all that different? Keith and Logan better follow us into the future. And Mac and Wallace (even Piz and Parker) could easily and believably drop-in to visit their long-time friend, Veronica.

Speaking of Piz, reminds me of Chris Lowell signing on to be in the Greys’ Anatomy spin-off. I’m still not a fan of the idea (the series, not Lowell on the show), but I know I’ll watch and so will everyone else, which means the show will succeed. I love Kate Walsh and the character of Addison and I’d just prefer she stayed on Grey’s 1.0. I liked where they were going with her and Alex… now no more. I always enjoy her ob-gyn related storylines. I like Addison’s interactions with so much of the cast. I should really be optimistic and hold off judgment until May when the spin-off premiers. I’m sure I’ll end up loving it.

In other Grey’s related news, George and Izzie (presumably) slept together. From what I’ve read online, pretty much everyone seems to hate the idea. I feel like I should hate it – I even want to hate it, but I don’t. Cheating sucks and I feel terrible for Callie, but… this is a TV show, not real life and I’ve always been a sucker for friends becoming lovers storylines. (Anyone else a Willow and Xander fan? I liked Ross & Rachel and Chandler & Monica together, but then again, who didn’t? Probably explains why I’m such a die-hard Luke & Lorelai supporter as well.)

3’s the Number

Filed under: Veronica Mars, Weeds — by Melanie @ 5:20 pm

The CW ordered 3 more episodes of Veronica Mars… this is good news. A full season (or the rest of, I should say) would have been better, but I’ll take what I can get.

I was also excited to read that Showtime has ordered a 3rd season of Weeds. :)

Playing Catch-up

Filed under: Desperate Housewives, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, Nip/Tuck, Veronica Mars, Weeds — by Melanie @ 8:47 pm

I’ve totally neglected blogging. I’ve just been so busy with school and life lately. I”m going to do a quick run through of my thoughts on television lately.

Weeds – Holy shit, the season finale was amazing. This show is consistently amazing; why is a season only 10 or 12 episodes long?!

Grey’s Anatomy – I love this show even when the episodes are just so-so. The latest episode was kinda ‘blah’ but the ending made up for it. I’m so happy the writers finally put Meredith and Derek back together. Gilmore Girls has left a bad taste in my mouth “we must create drama by messing with a relationship that the fans love.” (Sure, that happened in S2, but we all knew they’d eventually get together… and we got our occasional little treats and angsty looks.)

Gilmore Girls – Speaking of which… this show hasn’t made me so happy lately. Fine, Luke and Lorelai were broken up at the end of last season by ASP, and that wasn’t Rosenthal’s fault… but all this uber-romantic Christopher shit is annoying. Everything seems too fast and out of character. All this show is about anymore is relationships – Lorelai and Chris, Rory and Logan… even Luke and the swim coach. Everything’s just different. At first I was relatively happy with GG at the beginning of the season, but not anymore. Oh, and the aerie girls on Tuesdays should just go away or something. Can we say annoying?

Veronica Mars - So far, so good. I’m not happy that they are going to break Logan and Veronica up, but we all know it’s coming. And presumably for Piz? I just don’t see the chemistry between he and Veronica at all. One complaint I do have with the season so far is that the writers haven’t done much of anything to make us care about the new characters i.e. Piz or Parker. I feel like I care more about the Dean than them. Regarldess, this show usually makes me happy. The current mystery is really starting to heat up which should make for some good eps in the coming weeks. BTW, where’s Mac???

Desperate Housewives - Last week’s episode was awesome. It made me cry. I never thought an episode of DH would do that to me.

Nip/Tuck – For some reason this show just isn’t keeping me as interested as it once did. I didn’t watch it last Tuesday because I’m a political junkie and was tuned into CNN for election results (which were amazingly super duper awesome!) Is anyone else kinda bored with the story arc this season?
I’ve been watching Brothers and Sisters after DH and Ugly Betty before Grey’s. They’re both really growing on me. And I started watching S1 of The O.C. on DVD. (My sister owns them.) So addicting! I love Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie is gorgeous.

That’s all… hopefully it won’t be a month again.
